Everything about Lace wig human or synthetic hair

Lace wigs, which are becoming increasingly realistic, are gradually gaining ground in the beauty industry. In this article, you will learn how to differentiate between the various types, choose the best one for you, buy, place, and manage daily care, among other things.

Famous people embrace wigs
Recently, Kim Kardashian caused a frenzy by appearing bleach blonde at a charity gala in New York. Due to the natural look of the wig, all fans and followers thought she had actually dyed her hair.

Wigs are gaining strength in fashion, being particularly popularized by pop singers, especially Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj. This is helped by new technology that makes wigs increasingly similar to real hair, with laces that mimic the scalp and look completely natural.

Each show or music video features a different look. This has fueled fans' curiosity and popularized wigs.

A brief history of wigs
Wigs have had many ups and downs throughout history. They first appeared for hygiene reasons – to prevent lice and other parasites. Ancient peoples, men and women, shaved their heads. This way, wigs protected the scalp from the sun and cold and were made from horsehair and other animal hair.

Egyptians, like Cleopatra, wore hygienic wigs, and they were an object of aesthetics and status: the more ornate the wigs, the higher the social position of the person.

Greek and Roman women, who wanted to be blonde to distinguish themselves in a country mainly composed of brunettes, used and abused light-colored wigs.

But it was from 1660 that the wig had its heyday, especially among men, with Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV. At that time, in some social classes, not wearing them was even an offense.

With the French Revolution - after 1789 - the accessory became abominable, as it was a custom of the nobility and went against revolutionary ideals.

At the beginning of the last century, French women again used wigs, this time in shorter versions. Colorful wigs in pastel shades for dances of the time were also popular. The wealthiest had a dress matching a different wig color for each.

After 1950, synthetic fiber appeared, which made it possible and viable to produce wigs on a larger scale. But the accessory began to be enveloped in a certain prejudice, as it was very artificial, being used more for parties and by people undergoing chemotherapy.

Indications for wig use
alopecia;
chemotherapy treatments;
profession (actresses/actors, performers, dancers, singers);
change your look quickly without cutting or chemical treatments such as straightening, coloring, etc.

Human Wigs vs. Synthetic Wigs
The hair industry has made synthetic and organic hair increasingly similar to human hair. Synthetic options make wigs cheaper, costing a fraction of the price of a human hair wig.

If you are going to buy a synthetic wig, prefer those made of Korean fiber, on which you can apply heat with a flat iron and curl up to 180°C. This fiber also has the advantage of being much less tangled than other fibers, such as Kanekalon.

Human hair wigs have the advantage of being able to be blow-dried and styled, thus achieving a more natural look than synthetic wigs.

Wigs made of tulle (lace)
Lace is nothing more than transparent tulle where hair strands are implanted one by one to mimic the scalp. Depending on the placement of the wig where the lace is used, the wig is called a Front Lace, Full Lace, or 360º Lace.

Different models

There are many models, and the most common ones are listed below:

- Front lace wig or Lace front wig
Front, in English, means front or before. So, the front lace is a wig that has the tulle at the front, at the top of the forehead. It is a model that has a front display from ear to ear. This fabric resembles the scalp and the idea is to cover the entire head. In this type of wig, you should note the size of the lace. There are wigs with lace from 1 to 12 cm from the first strands in front. There are also those with lace just at the beginning of the hair.

The rest of the wig is made of hair sewn onto the head at the nape.

Types of front lace
As we said, there are variations in lace size from 1 to 12 cm, but there are also different shapes. When buying your wig, note whether the tulle only allows for one part, or if it is one that has a larger lace size, which allows for multiple hair parts.

The advantage of Front Lace is its lower price, because the larger the lace size, the more work is required for manufacturing or implantation. This is why Full lace and 360º are proportionally more expensive. The disadvantage is that it is not possible to wear the hair very high without the cap at the nape. It is also less airy than the other two types.

If you do NOT want to tie your hair up high, and will always wear it down or in a ponytail, the Front Lace is the best option for you.

- Full lace wig
Full, in English, means complete, entire, which rightly leads us to assume it is a wig entirely made of lace. Therefore, all the hair strands are implanted by hand, making it possible to part it naturally from the forehead to the nape.

Its cap is entirely made of tulle (imitating the scalp), which can guarantee more naturalness, as the client can part the hair in any direction up to the end of the wig. Many are custom-made.

The advantage of this type of cap is precisely the possibility of styling the hair high up and making any part, but also of being the most airy, since everything is made on tulle. The disadvantage is that it is more fragile than the other two types - has a shorter lifespan - and is also the most expensive.

If you want to tie your hair high, want an airy wig with maximum naturalness, the Full Lace option is the best for you.

- L-part wig

Wig with a parting forming an "L" at the top of the head. This parting can be on both sides or just one.

- Invisible part

There is a screen in the lace division that may or may not be open. The purpose is for you to choose to cut the fabric at the seam to blend it with your natural hair, located under the wig. There are some places where the service comes with a "U" shape that allows you to blend with a larger amount of your hair.

- Half wig

This is similar to the front lace, but there is no small screen in front. The idea is that you use a part of your hair at the front to blend. But, it is possible to use it without blending because you can create bangs, or baby hair that disguises it very well. I really like this model because I think it is more pliable and the price reflects that.

Lace density
When we talk about density, we are referring to the amount of hair sewn and attached to the cap, whether it is front lace, full lace, or 360º lace. The density will determine whether the wig will be thinner or fuller. It can range from 100% to 200%, with smaller values receiving fewer hair strands and larger values receiving more hair strands.

For a more natural look, prefer densities between 130% and 150%, as less than 130% makes the wig very thin and more than 150% results in a very voluminous look that can appear somewhat artificial.

Density only applies to human hair wigs.

Wig prices
Several factors, such as the material used, density, color, and lace size, influence the final price of the wig. Understand more about this below.

1. Material
Of course, human hair is much more expensive than synthetic or organic hair. And among synthetic types, there are cheaper and more expensive ones depending on the quality. See the difference and understand more here.

There can also be large differences in value between human hair wigs depending on the quality of the hair used. Selected hair is more expensive than unselected hair.

2. Lace size
In the lace area, the hair strands are implanted by hand, one by one, which takes time. Therefore, the larger the lace area of the wig, the longer and more expensive the preparation.

3. Colors
The more colors your wig has, the more it will cost you. For example, if it is made with a single color, it will be cheaper compared to a highlighted or ombre wig, which consists of two or more colors. And, in the case of human hair wigs, wigs made with dark strands are cheaper than blonde ones. Wavy and curly textures also make wigs expensive. For synthetic wigs, hair color and texture generally do not influence the price.

4- Length
The longer the hair strands used to make the wig, the more expensive it will be.

This typically applies more to human hair, as it takes years to grow, and donors of long hair (for a cut and sum) are harder to find.

5- Density
The higher the density, the greater the amount of hair strands used to make the wig, and the more expensive it will be. Shorter wigs are cheaper, while fuller and thicker ones are more expensive.

Wig quality
The quality of a wig starts with the choice of material, the subtlety, and the delicacy of the finishes during its construction. Do you know what characteristics to look for when choosing a wig, so that it is of the highest quality and natural? Below, we will teach the main points to observe.

1- Hair type

- 360º lace wig

As its name suggests, this type of wig has tulle in 360º, meaning all around the cap at the contour line. At the very top, the hair is sewn, making it an intermediate alternative between the Front and Full types. See the figure below.

The 360º Lace wig has the advantage of being able to tie the hair very high and create a natural parting at the seam area. The price is intermediate to the other two types, as the lace area is larger than that of the front lace and smaller than the full lace.

This is our favorite type because it offers the best value for money, as you don't pay as much as for a Full Lace, and you can still easily tie your hair on top of your head.

For human hair, choose 100% Remy human hair wigs or organic virgin hair. This will prevent it from tangling and make it last much longer than Remy hair. For synthetic wigs, the best ones are those that use Korean fiber.

2- Lace size
The size of the lace matters if you want the freedom to part the hair. If the lace is small, it will limit

3- contour line
A natural and graduated contour line will make your wig look very realistic.

Some features to look for when buying your wig:

Durability
The durability of a wig will depend on several factors, including:

1-Hair quality
Among synthetic options, Korean fiber wigs will last much longer than those made of Kanekalon or another lower-quality fiber. If you opt for human hair, to last longer, you must select virgin or Remy hair.

2-Lace size
Theoretically, the higher the lace, the lower the durability. This is because, as the hair strands on the lace are hand-knotted, one by one, it is the most fragile part of the wig. Each time you comb and wash it, you lose a few strands. Thus, the longer the wig's lace, the shorter its durability. However, in practice, the difference is minimal if you buy a lace wig made by experienced and qualified professionals, with quality control.

3-Density
As we discussed earlier, you will lose wig strands over time. For this reason, the greater the density of the strands, meaning the more strands the wig has, the longer it will last.

4-Frequency of use and care
For the same reason mentioned above, the wig will wear out depending on the frequency of use. The more you use it, the less it will last. Try not to sleep with your wig; if you do, tie it up or braid it once or twice. The same goes for going to the beach or the pool.

See below for tips on how to care for your wig to make it last longer.

Cap size
You can easily determine the ideal cap size with a measuring tape. If you don't have a measuring tape, you can use a string and then measure with a ruler. If your measurements are between one size and another, always prefer the larger size, as caps always have elastic bands and adjustments, making the wig more comfortable for you.

Although wigs have adjustable elastic bands, it's always good to get the right cap size for a perfect fit and a more natural result.

Lace Glues
Most wigs come with combs for attachment, without using glue. However, people with little to no hair will need to use some form of glue or adhesive. And even those with hair often feel the need to glue at least the lace wig so that it stays close to the skin with a very natural finish.

There are roll-on adhesives as well as liquid or creamy glues that you apply with a brush. To be easy to apply and as natural and invisible as possible, note the following points before choosing one product over another:

* should not dry too quickly, especially if you don't have much experience with wigs yet;
* some glues are white, but after drying, they should be transparent;
* the finish should be matte and not shiny - you don't want the lace to shine on your forehead;
* must be waterproof and resistant to oily skin;
* the durability of the glue depends on your goal, whether you want it to last a few hours, a few days, or a few weeks;
The variety of glues and adhesives on the market is enormous, and none can please everyone. Each person has a different opinion, influenced by skin type, oily skin, perspiration, routine, comfort, preferences, skills, etc. So you will only discover the best type of glue tested for you.

For removal, there are oily and non-oily removers. Oily removers are very good, but they leave a lot of oil residue, and you should wash your lace very well before reapplying it after removal, as any trace of oil will significantly reduce the glue's duration. Oil-free remover does not leave the lace greasy, but it still requires cleaning before replacement.

What we can do is leave our suggestions here, according to our preferences:

BMB Super Hold Glue - among the top-rated for Laces in the United States. Super long-lasting (average 3 weeks), transparent, waterproof.

But we also have the go2be brand that we sell:

Megaplik Blue Line Extra Strong Adhesive - long-lasting (average 15 days), transparent, waterproof, easy to apply.

Buy an adhesive and glue remover - fast acting without leaving oily residue.

Allergy test
Each type of adhesive and glue uses different additives and ingredients that can react to your skin. Therefore, it is recommended to test all lace glue on a small area of your skin before applying it to the scalp. Simply put a few drops - or a piece of the sticker - on the inside of your arm, cover with a Band-Aid, and leave it for 24 hours. Upon removal, there should be no itching or redness. Although skin sensitivity is not common, it can occur, so be sure to perform this test.

Wig care
The less you handle your wig - wash, brush, dye, curl, etc. - the longer it will last.

Synthetic wigs are easier to care for as they do not lose their hair shape if heat is not applied. Human hair is easy to style - you simply notice how much natural hair is marked after being tied in a ponytail, for example. So, if you put your human wig in a drawer anyway, you will have to style it again, meaning you will have to straighten the hair strands.

To store your wig, we recommend a dummy head or a wig hanger.

Step-by-step for washing and drying
Washing a human or synthetic wig is pretty much the same. What will differentiate it is the time for the moisturizing mask and heat protectant. Synthetic wigs work better with softener, and protectant on them will be useless, so don't waste it either!

1- Comb and brush the wig starting from the ends and working your way up;

2 - Turn the wig inside out - flip the cap - with the lace part facing out. This will be the first part to be washed;

3- Put the wig under the shower in lukewarm water. It can also be in a sink or basin, depending on the hair length (always wash vertically to avoid knots and discomfort). Let the wig soak well in water;

4. Apply shampoo to the cap and gently massage with circular motions to remove any glue and adhesive residue;

5- Rinse the cap and repeat if you feel the need;

6- turn the wig over, apply shampoo to the "root" of the hair, gently massaging and pulling the foam towards the length and ends;

7- Rinse, removing all shampoo;

8- Squeeze the cap and hair with your hands to remove as much excess water as possible and apply a moisturizing mask. Leave for a few minutes according to the product instructions;

9 - Rinse thoroughly with water, taking advantage of the moment the water flows through the hair to run a detangling comb;

10- Squeeze the cap and hair with your hands to remove as much water as possible. Afterwards, wring it out with an absorbent cotton towel. Do not rub;

11- Apply a heat protectant or detangler and comb the wig. You can blow-dry if the wig is human hair. If you prefer to air dry, it is important to place it on a mannequin or wig stand that we have already mentioned, already defining with a comb where the part will be distributed.

12- If your wig has a fabric cap, after the hair is dry, you will feel that the cap is still damp. You must dry it thoroughly before wearing it on your head again. For this, you can use a hair dryer inside the cap.

Tips to make your wig look more natural
If you opt for a low-quality wig, here are some tips you can use to make it look more natural. These tips apply to both human hair and synthetic wigs.

1-Pluck the hairline
A natural wig has hair strands around the face, sides, and nape that are anatomically and gradually thinned out. However, many wigs come with a straight and very "stiff" hairline. You can pluck strands with tweezers for a more natural result.

2-Hiding visible knots
Synthetic and human wigs that do not have bleached hair strand knots become more apparent. You can easily solve this with a brush and concealer in your skin tone, both in the hair part and along all the lace edges.

Visible knots can be hidden with concealer and a brush

The difference between Full Lace wig and Front Lace wig

The Full Lace is an undetectable wig made of real Remy hair mounted on a very fine tulle called Micro skin.

This very light method perfectly follows the shape of the skull and the color of the scalp, and also respects the natural hairline, allowing the freedom to do whatever you want, such as putting your hair in a high bun, tying it back, or leaving it loose in the wind.

The Front lace is a normal half-wig but has the privilege of having the front part hand-tied strand by strand onto a thin micro-skin that mimics the scalp.

In summary

1. Full lace: fully thinned and hand-tied on a cinema tulle called micro-skin. It is undetectable and discreet because it mimics the scalp.

2. Front lace: the front part is thinned on a tulle and the back part is machine-sewn onto a wig base. They adapt perfectly to all skin types: white, black, or mixed-race.
