Hair extension application methods: attachment techniques

1. Strand-by-strand techniques : small strands of hair extensions are taken and attached one by one to small sections of hair. Finishing this technique could take several hours: generally, there are an average of 50-100 strands. If done well, your hair and extensions will blend together in a completely natural way. To do this, you can use procedures performed with or without glue. When hair is very brittle and breaks easily, this is probably not the best method for you.
2. Hair extensions with wefts : A weft is given by different lengths on which the hair is already attached (a strand of hair attached together at the top and free at the bottom). A weft can be machine-made or hand-made: hand-made wefts are the best, they are custom-made to fit your head best and match your hair. The extensions are then applied using a line (track) instead of thread: you can do this with an attachment that involves the use of glue or not.
3. Tape-in extensions : Made with keratin, rings, double-sided glue, or with clips, and some people have them sewn directly into the head. Generally, your hair is "inserted" between the two extensions with adhesive tape. For finer hair, you can only use a single application of double-sided adhesive tape.
4. Clip-in extensions : cold application method (no additional tools required). They can be repositioned as often as you like in a few simple steps. In this case, it is advisable to backcomb the area where the locks will be applied to achieve greater adhesion and better hold. The disadvantage is that the clips can be more visible to the naked eye, especially if your hair is very fine.

Methods of applying hair extensions

1) Glued or bonded attachments
When using this type of attachment, you will need to pay attention to different brands, as they can be harmful to hair or skin, but only in some cases. It is advisable to use a special solvent to begin the removal phase and always consult your hairdresser before relying on a particular application method. You can also choose between hot applications (as in the case of U-tips) or cold applications.
Some extension models require the use of keratin, a fibrous protein used to create the main structural component of hair. In general, however, it is advisable not to wash or wash your hair for at least 48 hours after application, until you notice that the inserted bonds become completely secure.

2) Glue-free attachment
You can also choose from other models such as micro-links or rings, clips, threads, and braids. For some attachment options, you can opt for a pre-attached ring (called I-Tips): in this case, you use an extractor, which is usually a hook, that pulls your hair through a small micro-ring and thus completes the application phase.

• Can I swim with extensions? Of course you can! The strands are made of keratin with a very similar structure to hair and therefore do not dissolve in water. They are very strong and extremely safe.
• If I go to the beach, what should I do? Long extensions are not afraid of seawater. After swimming, rinse your hair with clean water and dry it as quickly as possible.
